Our Company History
Briggeman Beck Muffler Shop was founded as a corporation in January 1981. The original co-owners, and brothers-in-law, were Herman Briggeman, Indianapolis, IN., and Harold C. Jaynes, Lake Zurich, IL. Briggeman Beck was the second Beck Muffler Shop to be opened in the greater Indianapolis area, with the first store located at 7111 Madison Ave, Southport, Indiana. The new location was 320 N US 31 in Franklin, which is now occupied by the Big O Tires. Shortly after the Grand Opening of the Franklin location, Pat Murray assumed the position of Manager and Co-Owner, taking over the shares of Harold C. Jaynes, his father-in-law. Pat was a crucial part in establishing the shop in the Franklin Community.
In 1985, Beck Muffler moved to its current location at 3070 N. U.S. Highway 31. The "New Shop" consisted of four inside repair bays and one outdoor Truck Lift. Located on 2 1/2 acres of land the shop had plenty of room to grow. And grow it will over the next 20 years with two major additions to the building and parking lot. The current building has 19 Service bays, equipped with 4 Heavy Truck Lifts and 14 Vehicle Lifts. Parking is always at a premium!
After several years as Co-Owner and Manager, Pat Murray and his family moved to Clearwater Florida to start their own business, Murray Motive. Murray Motive is now located in Oldsmar, FL, just North of the Greater Tampa area.
Tom Riedel joined the Beck Muffler Franklin team in November of 1990 as new Co-Owner and Manager. Tom had previously been employed at the Southport location when the opportunity arose to take over the position vacated by Pat Murray's move to Florida. Tom's hard work and integrity over the recent years has helped create what
Beck Muffler is today. He is the face of the business in the Franklin Community, almost everyone knows who Big Tom is!
On the 5th of March 2003, Herman Briggeman passed away. Herman was the man who started it all. It was his vision of honest car repair work and dedication to the employees that still drives Beck Muffler today. His vision is carried on by his wife, Lee Ann Briggeman and their son Ben Briggeman who still holds positions as Co-Owners and Corporate Officers.
In 2010, Beck Muffler will celebrate its 29 years of business in the Franklin Community.
